I have a huge urge to paint a whole bunch of objects one color.

like:

-all my french curves and ship curves, and then display them on my wall

-a bunch of mis matched picture frames(but this has been done)

OR also tempted to go pattern heavy- and start covering ugly things with pretty patterned paper.

Almost to my 100th post! if I had an followers I might host a contest and then give a prize. Unfortunately, I don't. Maybe just megan. My contest would be, describe something about yourself(your life, your love, etc) in 6 words. The prize would be a rhinoceroo.

lego lovers

I have always loved legos. And then I found MOC pages a website for sharing your Lego creations. (MOC= My own creation)

I knew people were way into legos(I used to be in the lego club...) but was absolutely astounded and impressed with this pretty amazing stuff!

thrift store find: colors of SF

Hit the mission today to meet someone, arrived way earlier so perused the neighborhood thrift shop to find:



This colorful soft leather wallet! A darling United colors of Benneton piece. It's well made, well loved, and still has very crisp pocket edges, and details in the zipper pull. I've been on the hunt for a new wallet that wasn't made of THICK chunky vinyl/leather. I like things I can put in my pocket. My first thought at sight was, "UGH. PRIMARY COLORS???" and then I looked closer, and just loved how thin it was with places for cash, coins, AND cards. And an outside pocket! I love the colors! They aren't the cheesy over plasticized ones either. yum leather. It's like kindergarten chairs meets sophisticated business.



Spent the afternoon with my mentor/boss/friend doing computery stuff and generating idears. Yay! great day!

DIY organizing

I took my ipod nano packaging and turned it into a convienient organizer. I "run out the door" on a regular basis and often forget things. Now, I can put my 'importants' in this pocket by the door, so I never lose my keys, phone, Metro pass, etc.

And then the top part can hold secondary items (sunglasses, ipod, etc)



Basically I just made some "U" shaped cuts, and the lower top section was the foam core flap where the actual ipod bed. It makes for a pretty handy bulletin board.


Speaking of bulletin boards....

My dad made me a magnetic board a while back, but things kept sliding down, until they fell off the board. W/ bulletin boards they are pegged in a bit more securly, AND you can stack multiple sheets. So I turned an old carpet sample board into a bulletin board[see below] It works particularly with this sample, b/c the sampesl had a .125" layer of rubbery stuff, which really holds the pins, versus a more woven rug/carpet sample.

Savvywrap aka Furoshiki

Persimmon and Pine has made Savvywrap a business, but furoshiki is older than plastic bags- a japanese tradition, wrapping objects in cloth for transport. Originally used for wrappin gup clothes at the bathhouse, according to wikipedia.

Savvywrap has a cool downloadable PDF here showing how to wrap bottles, books and different shaped objects to carry.

I have to say this vase is slick Testube vase I'm not a fan of the name, or the shape of the wood so much as the concept of a vase that "holds" flowers, but visually hardly touches them! Great!

Ponoko is a co that does custom laser cuts for people, and also has a interface for them to sell their laser cut products. My university had a laser cutter that we went wild with. DIY all the way!

Necklace organizer + hammock

As previously mentioned, I'm doing some spring cleaning- and cleaning often times means re-arranging objects inside the house, putting stacks of magazines under the bed, and old "un wearable" shirts in the back of the closet. j/k DONATE! or Garage sale!!

I got tired of tangled necklaces and ta-da! A piece of chicken wire painted white did the trick. I saw another lady do it with the square grid type mesh, but I really like my hexagons. Reminds me of honeycomb and anthropologie's current store decor.




And then this was a quick hanky hammock for some of my small friends. The Triceratops is knitted by my aunty!



Anyhow, I decided I need to stop shoving everything into boxes, and stacking them(already hit the cieling) and display some of the nicer things that I own- I mean they are pretty, so why hide 'em?



Made my own baby jewelry friendly "S" hooks with floral wire and pens.

Baggu makes nlon grocery bags as well as produce bags. Simple enough, and saves us from icky plasticy bags.

My mom is suddenly looking for more ways to be "green" by using tupperware instead of saran wrap or ziplock bags.

Else....

Did some major cleaning and shuffling around of things, will be trashing another few bags of stuff this week. Made a delicious apple galette(yum!) falling in love with my LCD monitor, and being also whispering "wow.." at testimonial videos from I am Second , a movement in Texas, has some reall strong videos of the guy from Korn as well as average joes. really amazing.
